California Roll House is a truly inspiring conceptual design for efficiency and elegance. Christopher Daniel of ViolentVolumes is clearly thinking way ahead of his fellow designers. This house is designed energy and environmentally sustainable. The cannoli shell shaped and its material keeps the house cool in the desert haze. Reflecting back sun rays outward. This house designed so to be put together and dismantle easily for mobility purposes.

Elements expanding on the ground provide stability and a platform for outdoor activities.

Industry, hydraulic powered automatic door controlled by number lock panel. Installed on the sloped wall as the main entrance to minimize the space required for operation. Also avoid contact with the user while in operation. When the door is fully open, the clearance height is up to 6.6 feet tall [2 meters]. The door opens into two pieces, the upper piece lifts up overhead. And the lower piece unfolds onto the floor for visitors to step on. When the door is completely closed, the material on the outside continues with the material of the exterior surface to achieve conformity and hide the entrance.

The modular opening elements could be manipulated by the household needs. The bedrooms divided by either shelves or curtains with the translucent parts so to let the light dance around the house.

“At times, the simplest form with least manipulation from its original form can offer visual amenities and adapted solution to the context. California Roll prefabricated house takes this methodology to create its morphological adaptation to its environment: desert. Homogeneous exterior material which provides high grade of energy efficiency and reflects heat from the sun covers the entire surface except for glass panels which are electronically controlled to change its transparency. Modularization of every structure members and finish materials are maximized to provide mobility with rapid assembly and disassembly on site. To sustain its challenging structural stand, carbon fiber truss frame underneath the exterior material holds the entire architecture.
